Explore Environmental Science Weekend for High School Girls

Environmental Science Weekend
Participants in the fall 2016 Explore program collect data on tree measurements to calculate carbon storage.

Do you like to wade in streams, program computers, observe animals, grow vegetables, collect minerals or fly drones? If you answered yes to any one of these, you may be a budding environmental scientist!

Discover what it’s like to work as an environmental scientist by joining us Oct. 13-14, 2017, for a weekend of hands-on learning and problem solving. You’ll spend time in the forests and streams on Sweet Briar’s expansive campus, collaborating with Sweet Briar environmental science professors and students to collect and analyze data relevant to a contemporary environmental challenge. You’ll stay in one of our historic residence halls with environmental science student mentors, explore our beautiful campus and get a taste of life as a college student.

This event is open to high school girls in their sophomore, junior and senior years.

Explore Environmental Science is supported by the Judith Haskell Brewer Fund.

Please note: We will spend a good chunk of Saturday in Sweet Briar’s forests, fields and streams. We’ll walk several miles and will probably get muddy and wet. If you are excited about the weekend but have a physical limitation, please contact us to discuss how we can accommodate you.
