Congratulations on graduating form Caroline High School!!!! Having completed high school and getting into college, trade/technical school, or the work world are huge accomplishments. The summer is a terrific time to sit back and reflect on just how far you have come!!! I know you all have worked very hard and earned a well deserved rest, but please remember that now is the time to get ready for the next part of you journey.
Here are 7 Career Coach Hummer hints to make the most of your time this summer so you can “hit the ground running in the fall”.
- 1. Get your “PAPERWORK” in order. Please make sure you complete and return the necessary forms the college sent you. Housing and eating are very important!
- 2. Get in touch with your roommate.
- 3. Get your physical done. Most school and employment will require them.
- 4. See if you have to take any placement exams. Check with your school web sites to see if your SAT/ACT could replace them.
- 5. ASK QUESTIONS!! do not be shy.
- 6. Get shopping! Hunt for deals to supply your room or apartment.
- 7. Stay the course! The transition to college/work life means changes. Expect a few ups and downs. Talk it out with someone you trust.
* Take full advantage of ALL THE RESOURCES and tools available to you on your JOURNEY!
Construction is one of the fastest growing industries in the country, and is currently facing critical skilled-labor shortages. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics projects that the construction industry will need to hire over 1.8 million additional workers by 2020. Women comprise only 9 percent of the estimated 8.4 million workers in construction trades and related occupations, representing the single largest untapped resource for tomorrow’s construction workforce.

The PSAT has been rescheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 30th. Testing will begin at 2:00 pm and will be given in the cafeterias. ALL students who want to take the PSAT need to sign up (this includes juniors and advanced 10th graders); even if you signed up previously. You can sign up in the school counseling office. Plan to bring your own graphing calculator and 2 No. 2 pencils. Students will need to make arrangements to be picked up or plan to ride the activity bus home that day.
Students who are planning to attend a four year college/university and need to take the SAT can take it at CHS on December 7 (this was not an original test date for CHS-it’s just been added). Also, there’s still space available for the SAT prep class–stop by the school counseling office to get a registration form. The SAT prep class prepares students in time to take the test on December 7. The charge is $42.00 (which includes the cost of the book). See your school counselor for more details.
